If you’re looking for advice, support and guidance as you write your draft, our coaching sessions offer ad hoc support, and our longer programmes provide regular input into, and the option for feedback on, your work-in-progress.

The 1-hour Starter Session

Struggling with a writing challenge and not sure what to try next? Think coaching might be for you but not ready to sign up for a longer programme?  Whether you’re looking to discuss a story problem, character idea, wanting advice on how to get started, or having a crisis of confidence and looking to get your writing mo-jo back, our 1-hour coaching starter session could help.

Available by Skype video or telephone, this one-off introductory session gives you a sounding board to help explore the issue you’re grappling with, and supports you to decide on your next plan of action.

The 2-hour ‘As-and-When’ Session

Fallen into a plot hole? Characters feeling one dimensional? Struggling to find time to write? Finding it tough to keep you motivation going? Whatever the writing issue on your mind is, our 2-hour ‘as-and-when’ coaching sessions give you the space and time to think deeply about the problem you’re facing, assess the situation and explore a range of options that will help you move forward.

Bookable on a session-by-session basis this is a flexible option for those times when you need it, without signing up for a longer term programme. Available by Skype video, face-to-face (location dependant) or telephone.

CrimeFictionCoach Programme

Feeling daunted by the prospect of writing a full length novel? Looking for regular support while you write? This programme of monthly coaching sessions could help keep you motivated and stay on track while you write.

With one 2-hour coaching session per month, use your coach as a sounding board to discuss your work-in-progress, gain advice and guidance on writing issues, or take a deeper dive into aspects like plotting, character development, forward momentum, setting and voice. You’ll come away from the session with ideas for your next steps and a clear view on your focus for the next month.

Available by Skype video, face-to-face (location dependant) or telephone, this programme is bookable in blocks of six 2-hour sessions.

CrimeFictionCoach-Plus Programme

This programme builds on the standard CrimeFictionCoach Programme. In addition to the monthly 1.5-hour coaching sessions, it adds the option to send a 5-10,000 word chunk of your work-in-progress to your coach a week in advance of each session.

In the sessions your coach will give you verbal feedback on the words you’ve submitted, and you’ll have the opportunity to use your coach as a sounding board, or take a deeper dive in an aspect of writing, and you’ll come away from the session with actionable edits on the piece of writing you submitted, and a clarity of focus on your next month of writing.

Available by Skype video, face-to-face (location dependant) or telephone, this programme is bookable in blocks of six 2-hour sessions.

CrimeFictionCoach-Platinum Programme

The CrimeFictionCoach-Platinum Programme is our complete package of advice, guidance and support to take you from novel idea to completing your first draft and getting started on editing. The programme builds on the CFC-Plus programme and includes:

  • Six 1.5-hour coaching sessions, with the opportunity to use your coach as a sounding board or take a deeper dive into any aspect of writing from idea to outline, character development, narrative voice, setting, pacing and action plan your next steps
  • The option to send your coach 5-10,000 words of your work-in-progress a week in advance of each coaching session for verbal feedback during the session
  • A critique report (approx. 6-10 pages) on your finished first draft and synopsis, and a discussion with your coach about the report with the chance to ask questions, giving you a strong basis on which to plan and begin editing your second draft.

All elements of the CFC-Platinum programme should be taken-up within 12 months of the start date. Available via Skype video, face-to-face (location dependant) and telephone. Session timings are flexible to fit with your writing progress, and recommended to be roughly each 4-8 weeks.
